Tell us a bit about yourself and your family?
I grew up in a close-knit family that valued education and hard work. My mother, a supportive housewife, always encouraged my curiosity and love for science.
My father, a contractor, demonstrated the importance of perseverance and dedication in his work.
These influences significantly shaped my values and aspirations.
Additionally, I am blessed with a loving, caring, and supportive husband who has stood by me through every challenge and success.
His unwavering support has been instrumental in my journey, both personally and professionally.
Have you had any formal training or family business?
Although I didn't have any formal training or a family business background, and I was always more inclined towards traditional jobs, the idea of starting a business lingered in my mind.
I constantly dreamed up various business ideas but couldn't bring any to fruition due to a lack of support and the right information.
Nonetheless, my life took a pivotal turn when I married a businessman who became my greatest ally.
He provided answers to all my doubts, eased my nervousness, and did everything possible to kickstart my entrepreneurial journey.
This partnership paved the way for "Nutrition Meet," my very own online venture, where I blend my passion for nutrition with innovative business strategies.
How did you come up with the idea for your business, and what was the process of turning that idea into a reality?
Before I became a nutritionist, my formal education was in biotechnology. I was passionate about bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry practices for biotech students. This passion led me to create "Times of Biotech," a platform designed to address the lack of accessible career guidance resources in the field. Through "Times of Biotech," I aimed to offer practical insights from experienced professionals by networking with industry experts, recording podcast episodes, and building a website to host our content.
The journey was a steep learning curve, encompassing everything from the technical aspects of podcast production to mastering digital marketing strategies to reach our audience. However, amid this exciting venture and my newlywed life, I neglected my health. My weight soared from 58 kg to 76 kg, which shattered my confidence and caused both physical and mental strain. It was a wake-up call. I decided to pause and focus on my health, aiming to lose weight through balanced meals and regular exercise rather than fad diets.
During this transformative period, I pursued a diploma in Human Nutrition and began a master's course. These steps not only helped me regain my health, bringing my weight down to a healthy 60 kg, but also sparked a realization. I understood that many people, like me, struggle with poor health and unhealthy lifestyles but lack the luxury to take a step back and focus on themselves. They need someone experienced to guide them through small but effective changes in their routines, eating habits, and exercise to shed extra kilos, reverse diabetes, and build muscle for a healthier life.
This realization inspired me to start "Nutrition Meet," my online venture where I help people lead healthier lifestyles.
I aim to provide personalized support and practical strategies to help individuals achieve their health goals without disrupting their daily lives.
How have you grown as a leader since starting your company, and what have been some of the key lessons you've learned along the way?
Since starting my company, I have grown significantly as a leader. I've learned the importance of adaptability and resilience, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic.
One key lesson is that effective communication and empathy are crucial in leading a team and building strong relationships with clients.
I've also learned to be more strategic in decision-making, always considering both short-term and long-term impacts on the business.
Can you tell us about a time when you faced a major setback or failure in your business, and how you overcame it?
One major setback I faced was during the COVID-19 pandemic when "Times Of Biotech" experienced a significant slowdown.
This professional challenge was compounded by my personal health issues, including hypertension and IBS.
The stress and strain from these combined hardships became overwhelming, forcing me to make the heartbreaking decision to shut down the company in late 2021.
During this dark period, I realized I needed to prioritize my health above all else.
I channeled my energy into overcoming my health challenges, completing a diploma in Human Nutrition, and later beginning a master's in Food and Dietetics.
This transformative journey was not just about healing my body but also about rediscovering my purpose.
Emerging from this personal and professional crisis, I found inspiration to start "Nutrition Meet," a venture dedicated to educating and guiding others toward better health.
This experience taught me the profound importance of resilience and the necessity to pivot when faced with adversity.
It reinforced that sometimes, the most challenging setbacks can lead to the most rewarding new beginnings.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals, especially during challenging times?
I stay motivated by setting clear, achievable goals and reminding myself of the bigger picture—helping others lead healthier lives.
During challenging times, I rely on a strong support system of family and friends, regular exercise, and mindfulness practices like yoga, which I also teach.
These activities help me maintain a positive mindset and stay focused on my objectives.
Additionally, completing two half marathons has taught me the value of persistence and the satisfaction of achieving long-term goals.
How do you balance your personal life with the demands of running a business?
Balancing personal life and business demands requires careful planning and prioritization. I make sure to set aside time for self-care, family, and hobbies. Incorporating routines like daily exercise, healthy eating, and mindfulness practices helps me maintain my well-being.
Additionally, learning to delegate tasks and trusting my team has been crucial in managing my workload effectively.
Running half marathons has also instilled in me the importance of setting aside time for personal goals and physical fitness.
What are your plans for the future of your business, and how do you see yourself evolving as a founder and leader?
For "Nutrition Meet," I plan to expand our reach by offering online courses, workshops, and personalized nutrition coaching.
I also aim to collaborate with other health professionals to provide a comprehensive approach to wellness.
As a founder and leader, I see myself continuously learning and adapting to new challenges, always striving to inspire and empower my team and clients.
I also plan to leverage my marathon training experience to promote fitness and resilience among my clients.
If you could go back in time and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to embrace change and not be afraid of failure.
Each setback is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Also, prioritizing health and well-being is crucial because you can't pour from an empty cup.
Taking care of yourself ensures you can better take care of your business and those around you.
Completing two half marathons has reinforced the importance of setting personal health goals alongside professional aspirations.
What's the most unconventional thing you've done to grow your business, and what was the result?
One unconventional approach I took to grow "Nutrition Meet" was to integrate personalized nutrition plans with yoga sessions tailored for each client.
This holistic approach was relatively new and combined the physical and dietary aspects of wellness in a unique way.
By offering packages that included one-on-one nutritional consultations along with personalized yoga routines, I was able to provide a comprehensive health improvement plan.
This strategy resulted in highly satisfied clients who experienced significant improvements in their overall well-being, leading to positive word-of-mouth referrals and increased client loyalty.
What's the most important lesson you've learned from a failure, and how have you applied it to your business?
The most important lesson I've learned is the value of resilience.
The failure of "Times Of Biotech" due to the pandemic and health issues taught me to adapt and pivot rather than give up.
I've applied this lesson to "Nutrition Meet" by staying flexible in my approach, continuously seeking feedback, and being open to new ideas and strategies.
Completing two half marathons also taught me the importance of perseverance and the ability to push through challenges, which I've applied to my business endeavors.
What's the most meaningful compliment or feedback you've ever received from a customer, and why did it resonate with you?
The most meaningful feedback I received was from a client who told me that my nutrition and wellness guidance had not only improved their physical health but also their mental well-being and overall quality of life.
This resonated deeply with me because it reinforced my belief in the holistic approach to health and the positive impact my work can have on someone's life.
